The Path to Deification

Final Conclusion

"I am the way, the truth, and the life." (John 14:6)

This single statement contains the meaning of this entire book, the meaning of human life, and the meaning of the world itself. The Lord is the only Way, the only Truth, and the only Source of life—and of Eternal Life.

Theosis, which is the purpose of our existence, is the revelation of God within the purified heart of man. Then we behold God, come to know Him, immerse ourselves in His love, and our nature is completely transformed. We become like Him. We become gods by grace. Man was created in the image of God, and the perfect Image of God is the God-Man Jesus Christ.

Since we are created according to this Image, unless we find our Original Image and unite ourselves with Him, we cannot become truly complete. We cannot attain the fullness of life for which we were created, because the Lord Himself is the Source of life and, above all, of Eternal Life.

Theosis is the Kingdom of God within us. It is the reception of the grace of the Holy Spirit. It is the path by which human beings become saints and gods by grace. Theosis is participation in the glory of God. It is the vision of God, the experience of His grace, and the contemplation of His Uncreated Light. Theosis is not merely union; it is the mysterious communion of God and man in the Holy Spirit. Through Theosis, man is granted the privilege of beholding God.

This Theosis is not an abstract state, but a living union between man and God. Through participation in the divine life, man beholds the Uncreated Light because he is united with God. He sees it with the eyes of the soul and, according to the testimony of the Saints, even with bodily eyes transformed by the divine energies of God.

We are all children of God, and He awaits each one of us, just as the father awaited the Prodigal Son, so that we may return to Him and be united with Him. God created us and loves us regardless of what we do, even when we grieve Him through our selfishness and pride. He sends His eternal Word, through whom all things were created, through whom all things are sustained, and through whom all things are united. Jesus Christ is our Savior, the Source of Everything. Through His uncreated energies, the love of God sustains, nourishes, and gives life to all creation.

Christ draws us to Himself so that we may become like Him and fulfill the calling of the image and likeness of God. He leads us into adoption as children of God so that we may share in the life of our Heavenly Father. The Son and Word of God says to the Father: “Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, may be with Me where I am.”

This is the meaning of Theosis: union with the Triune God through Jesus Christ. Our destiny is Theosis. It is accomplished through the grace of God, through humility, obedience, repentance, and love—not through self-centered striving. The attempt at self-deification leads only to darkness, as happened with Adam and with the devil.

The soul of man, created in the image and likeness of God, longs for its Creator and desires union with Him. No matter how moral, virtuous, or successful a person may be, no matter how many good works they perform, they will never find true rest until they find God and unite themselves with Him. God Himself has placed within every human heart a divine longing, a sacred desire for union with Him. This longing is the longing for Theosis.

God reveals Himself as Person and as the communion of Persons. Christ, our Creator and our God, comes to us clothed in our humanity. Created from nothing and formed from the dust of the earth, we are incapable of truly knowing God unless He reveals Himself to us.

The entire purpose of our creation is union with the Triune God through Jesus Christ in the Holy Spirit. Only then do we become complete. Only then do we experience the fullness of life. Only then do we discover our true identity and our eternal destiny. Then, through Jesus Christ, we become united with all things and begin to perceive the profound unity of creation.

As Christ prayed: “And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one.” (John 17:22–23)

The Heavenly Father, seeing the perfect life, sacrifice, and obedience of Christ, beholds in Him humanity as He conceived it before all ages. God repeats His own image in those created according to His likeness and shares with them His life, not temporarily, but eternally. He does not merely create us to exist; He invites us to participate in His eternal life.

God is humility. God is love. Because God is humble, His love is self-emptying, sacrificial, and life-giving. This self-emptying love is the essential character of divine life itself and the foundation of the perfect unity of the Holy Trinity.

The ultimate purpose of human life is not merely health, happiness, success, or even virtue. The ultimate purpose of human life is Theosis—participation in the uncreated life of God through the grace of the Holy Spirit. This is our calling. This is our destiny. This is the purpose for which we were created.

And this is the path revealed to us by Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

The whole of Creation was conceived within the eternal counsel of the Holy Trinity, according to the pre-eternal plan of God. The purpose of this divine plan is that all creation may be recapitulated in the Person of the Logos.

Just as the God-Man unites the divine and human natures within Himself, He reveals to us the original destiny and purpose of human nature, which was created in the image of God. Through the Holy Mysteries and the Divine Liturgy, we receive the uncreated energy of God, are purified and illumined, and are led toward Theosis.

Christ is God incarnate. God reveals Himself both as Person and as a communion of Persons. Jesus Christ, our Creator, comes to us and grants us the possibility of returning to Him. He clothes Himself in our "garments of skin" and raises our humanity to Heaven, seating it at the right hand of God the Father.

Through Jesus Christ, we receive the gift of adoption as children of God. By following His teachings, participating in His Holy Mysteries, and living according to His commandments, we are gradually freed from the limitations of the fallen condition and are granted communion and union with God.

Salvation in Christ is the path established by the Living God for the Theosis of man. All other religious systems are the creations of finite human beings and cannot lead humanity beyond the limitations of corruption, mortality, and the boundaries of time and space.

Christ is unique. He is the God-Man. He is the eternal Logos of God who became flesh for our salvation. In the Person of Christ, human nature is resurrected and healed from death. Christ assumes human flesh in order to confront death and deliver us from its power. In His Person, perfect communion between God and humanity becomes possible, and our true adoption as children of God is fulfilled.

The purpose of God is that all things may become one in Christ and through Christ. His desire is that Christ reign within us, that the Lord be enthroned in our hearts, and that we inherit the Kingdom of God. True life is the life that does not end with death. Such Eternal Life became possible on earth through the Resurrection of the God-Man Jesus Christ.

Through Holy Baptism in the Name of the Holy Trinity, we are restored to communion with the Lord. We are granted access to Eternal Life regardless of our past, provided that we sincerely repent, follow His commandments, and nourish ourselves spiritually through His Body and Blood.

Our purpose on earth is to imitate Christ, who is our perfect example, and to become like Him. We imitate Jesus Christ through the power that He Himself grants us. This power is given through participation in His Church, through the Divine Liturgy, the Holy Mysteries, and faithful obedience to His commandments.

The energy of God is uncreated. If the energy of God were itself created, salvation would be impossible, for nothing created can save another created being. Through the Holy Mysteries and the Divine Liturgy, we receive the uncreated energies of God, through which we are purified, illumined, sanctified, and led toward Theosis.

Without the sacred dogmatic truth of the Holy Trinity, we cannot participate in the divine energies that proceed from the Holy Trinity. These divine energies give us life, sanctify us, save us, and deify us, and they are received through right faith.

Likewise, without the sacred truth of the God-Man Jesus Christ, there is no salvation for humanity. For when a person lives according to the Truth, divine power flows from that Truth—a power that saves them from sin, death, and the devil.

We are free, though not in the absolute sense that God is free. God alone determines His own Being in every respect. We, however, were created out of nothing and do not possess being in ourselves as God does. Apart from God, nothing exists by itself.

Yet we have been given the freedom to choose. We may accept our adoption by God the Father and enter into true freedom, or we may turn away from Him and encounter the darkness of separation and non-being. There is no middle ground. We become eternal to the degree that we remain united with God.

The true life of man begins with faith in Christ. Such faith entrusts to the Lord the whole soul, the whole heart, the whole mind, and all one's strength. Gradually, Christ sanctifies, transforms, and deifies the entire human person. Through this sanctification, transformation, and Theosis, the Lord communicates to man the divine energies of His grace.

These divine energies grant a powerful awareness and living experience of personal immortality and eternity. Our life is truly life only to the extent that it is life in Christ. And how much is it in Christ? This is revealed by its holiness. The holier our life becomes, the more immortal and eternal it becomes.

Man does not possess Eternal Life within the limits of his created nature. Left to himself, he remains separated from God. He becomes immortal only through participation in the divine life and through the gift of God's grace. This immortality can be experienced even in this present life, with greater or lesser intensity according to one's communion with God.

God is Personal Being, and we are called to become true persons in His likeness. We possess the potential to grow into His likeness because we were created in His image. In order to actualize this personal likeness to God, we must keep His commandments. Only then do we transcend the limitations of isolated individuality and enter into the divine mode of existence for which we were created.

Whoever comes to know the Lord through the Holy Spirit becomes like Him. When Jesus Christ draws us through His love, a profound transformation takes place within our entire being. He communicates His infinite life to us. Relationships of self-giving love belong to personhood itself, for they reflect the image of God, who is Love. In love, the human person discovers his likeness to God.

When that divine love touches the heart, the spirit beholds God in the Light and lives through Him and in Him. When the Spirit of Christ's love enters the soul, it awakens within us a thirst for the salvation of all people. There is no greater tragedy than ignorance of God.

Faith is communion with God. Faith is the vision of God. For this reason, God is pleased only by faith. Without faith, man cannot receive the grace of the Holy Spirit. The Lord is the Resurrection and the Life, and only through faith in the God-Man Jesus Christ do we inherit Eternal Life.

Yet faith without struggle against the passions, without prayer, fasting, Confession, Holy Communion, and obedience to the commandments of Christ is an empty word devoid of meaning.

As faith increases, the sanctification of human nature also increases. Our life is truly life only to the extent that it is life in Christ. The holier our life becomes, the more immortal and eternal it becomes.

Only through faith in Jesus Christ can we overcome the world. Faith is not merely belief about Christ—it is participation in Christ Himself. Faith is the resurrection of the soul from spiritual death. It is the awakening of the soul into divine life.

Faith in Christ unites man with the eternal Lord. According to the measure of a person's faith, Christ fills the soul with Eternal Life. Then man begins to experience and understand himself as an eternal being.

Only through faith in Jesus Christ are we able to overcome the limitations of the material world and enter into the life of the Kingdom of God.

Holy Scripture is not merely a book; it is life itself. The Word of God is the very Son and Logos of God, who is the Truth and the Life. The Word of God possesses infinite power. It exists beyond corruption, proceeds from the Uncreated One, and never changes.

Herein lies the great mystery: the person who embraces, adopts, and lives according to the Word of God passes from the created to the Uncreated, from corruption to incorruption, from death to Eternal Life. Such a person walks the path toward Theosis.

The commandments of Christ are nothing less than God's self-revelation, the manifestation of His Being within the world. By faithfully abiding within the sphere of Christ's commandments, the death that entered the world through sin is healed, and life becomes flooded with the Uncreated Light of Divine Eternity.

Only a firm faith that Christ is the Almighty God enables us to stand upon the unshakable rock of His commandments. The commandments place us face to face with Absolute Being Himself.

Knowledge of the Lord is granted only through personal communion with Him. The Lord bestows upon us the light of personal revelation. Through this revelation, the human person is given the grace to embrace all creation with the fire of Christ's love.

Through the Holy Spirit, our created personhood is introduced into the realm of the Uncreated Divine Being. Pure prayer is the safest and surest path to the knowledge of God.

The mind enslaved to rationalism cannot behold God. God is "seen" through the heart. By heart, we do not mean mere emotion, but the purified mind, cleansed of passions and earthly attachments, dwelling within the heart and turned toward God.

The essence of the soul resides in the heart. When the energy of the soul, which we call the mind (nous), becomes united with the essence of the soul in the heart, man rediscovers his true self and enters into communion with God.

The whole meaning of life is to realize that we cannot inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, Eternal Life, or Theosis while remaining enslaved to the passions. The Lord speaks clearly: no one can serve two masters. We are either with Him or against Him. We must choose where we direct our mind and our heart.

The eye of the soul is the nous, the spiritual faculty of perception. If our mind is focused on the passions—love of wealth, love of pleasure, and love of vainglory—our whole being remains in darkness and becomes subject to the prince of darkness.

When passions become habitual, demonic influences take root within the heart and deprive us of the joy that comes from communion with Christ. They rob us not only of peace in this life but also of the inheritance of Eternal Life.

Sin gradually diminishes the soul. It draws it closer to death, transforming it from immortal to mortal, from incorruptible and expansive to corruptible and limited. Every sin is a retreat. Every passion is a betrayal. Every act of evil is a defeat.

But the person who, through faith in the Risen Christ, struggles against every sin gradually acquires an ever-deepening certainty that Christ has truly risen, that He has truly conquered death on every battlefield of human existence.

Through sin and the fear of death, the devil holds the majority of humanity captive. Yet within the Church, which is the living Body of the Risen Christ, every person is given the possibility of resurrection, victory over death, victory over the devil, and freedom from the tyranny of the passions.

Bondage to sinful thoughts is called passion. The root of all passions is self-love—the excessive attachment to and preoccupation with oneself and bodily pleasure. The more we surrender to pleasures arising from the senses, the more we nourish the passions.

Through the passions, man becomes enslaved to Satan, who promises fleeting pleasure but always delivers suffering. After every sinful pleasure comes pain.

Yet our sins can never exceed the immeasurable compassion of God. Our wounds can never surpass His healing power.

We need only surrender ourselves to Him in faith, confess our sins and passions, and place our trust in His mercy. Then we receive the forgiveness of sins and become worthy, through His grace, to inherit the Kingdom of Heaven together with all the Saints.

Throughout our earthly life, we are engaged in a continual spiritual struggle. We are constantly confronted by temptation and by the reality of the devil.

The devil is a spirit that has existence but no true life within himself. Having separated himself from God, who alone is Life, he carries within himself spiritual death and seeks to spread that death to others. His malice is immense, yet he can do nothing beyond what God permits.

The devil desires above all that people deny his existence, so that he may work unnoticed and lead them to blame God for the tragedies and sufferings of life.

We are delivered from the influence of the devil and the demons through prayer, fasting, repentance, and faith. Whenever we lose the presence of the Holy Spirit within us, whenever we become disturbed, proud, or self-reliant, we become easy prey for the enemy. Pride drives away humility, and with the loss of humility we distance ourselves from the grace of God.

Through His Resurrection, the Lord demonstrates His victory over the devil and over his kingdom, which is death. In this way, He opens for fallen humanity the passage from death into life.

Man is truly born when he believes in the Risen Christ, for then he is born into Eternal Life. Physical birth brings us into a world subject to death, but faith in the Resurrection gives birth to us for eternity.

The Resurrection of Christ is the mother of all Christians, the source of immortal life. Through faith in the Resurrection of the Lord, man is born again and enters into the life of the age to come.

Our wondrous and all-loving Lord Jesus Christ, the Risen God-Man, is the only Being under heaven through whom mankind can conquer death, sin, and the devil. Through Him, man becomes blessed and immortal, a participant in the eternal Kingdom of Christ's love.

In the Resurrection are summed up all the events of Christ's life, all the works of the Apostles, and the entire mystery of the New Testament. Only through the Resurrection can we fully understand His miracles, His teachings, and His saving work.

The power of the Risen Christ enables every Christian to overcome mortality, sin, and demonic powers. Through Him, we gain victory over death itself.

The Heavenly Father, beholding the perfect life, sacrifice, and obedience of Christ, recognizes in Him humanity as He conceived it before all ages.

The closer we draw to the Risen Lord and the more deeply we participate in His life, the more we sense that death no longer has dominion over us. The life-giving power of Christ penetrates our entire being. It reaches even to our bones, filling us with peace, grace, and freedom from the fear of death. We become clothed in His beauty, His glory, and His incorruptible life.

Humanity condemned God to death, yet through His Resurrection God has condemned humanity to immortality.

Through the Resurrection of the God-Man, human nature has been placed irrevocably upon the path of immortality. Death itself has been defeated. Therefore, when the Christian dies, he merely lays aside the garment of the body, awaiting the day when he will receive it again, renewed and glorified, at the Second Coming of Christ.

Every word spoken by the Savior is filled with truth and possesses sanctifying power. When received with faith, the Word of God acts within the soul as a living and life-giving force. Every word of Christ is filled with the presence of God Himself, and when it enters the human heart, it cleanses it from every stain and fills it with divine life.

The gateway to Jesus Christ is our Most Holy Theotokos. No human person has ever been closer to the God-Man Jesus Christ than His Blessed Mother. She is the one who gave Him His human flesh. Through her obedience, Heaven descended to earth for our salvation.

Through the Incarnation of the Lord, the Theotokos became our powerful intercessor before God. She protects us from sin, from destruction, and from spiritual danger.

The Most Holy Theotokos became the living vessel through whom the Holy Spirit entered the world in a unique and saving way. By loving her, honoring her, and cultivating a living relationship with her through prayer, we draw closer to her Son.

Through the prayers of the Theotokos, we receive grace and are led toward union with God. She intercedes continually for the salvation of humanity. She is the Gate of Salvation, the Protection of the World, and the loving Mother of all who seek Christ.

The closer we draw to the Mother of God, the more deeply we are led to her Son. And the closer we come to Christ, the more fully we enter into the life of the Holy Trinity and the path of Theosis.

Whoever is illumined by the Holy Spirit and taught by Him the mystery of humility becomes like the Master Himself, Jesus Christ, the Son of God. The one who loves becomes like the One whom he loves.

Only the grace of the Holy Spirit can enable us to understand the immeasurable depth of God's love for humanity. Through this grace, we become participants by grace in the mystery of the self-emptying humility of the Son of God.

It is through the grace of the Holy Spirit that we are led to Christ. The Holy Spirit is the uncreated divine energy of God that guides and governs our lives. The presence of the Holy Spirit within us ensures the presence of Christ Himself, making us a dwelling place of God and a temple of the Holy Spirit.

The surest sign of the presence of the Holy Spirit is love for our enemies. Without the Holy Spirit, no one can truly know God or comprehend the greatness of His love for us.

In reality, every Holy Mystery and every divine virtue is a manifestation of life in the Holy Spirit. Through them, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within us. Through the Holy Spirit, our Lord Jesus Christ abides in us and we in Him. The entire life of the Church, in all its countless God-human realities, is guided and sustained by the Holy Spirit, who is always the Spirit of the God-Man Christ.

The Holy Spirit invisibly imparts divine knowledge to the soul. In Him the soul finds rest. The Holy Spirit gladdens the heart and fills it with heavenly joy even while still on earth. To doubt the divinity of the Holy Spirit is to doubt the very source of spiritual life itself. For the Holy Spirit gives us life, nourishes us spiritually, and becomes the sun, the air, the food, and the drink of the soul.

When a human being becomes a true person—a being capable, through prayer and love, of embracing God and all creation, and of speaking face to face with God and with others—then he fulfills the image and likeness of God within himself and enters into Eternal Life.

Pride prevents the Holy Spirit from dwelling within us. It separates man from God and isolates him within himself. Pride is the dark abyss into which man falls through sin. The proud person remains outside the all-embracing love of Christ. Pride contains within itself the very essence of hell, and deliverance from hell becomes possible only through repentance.

Repentance is the miracle that brings God into our lives. It restores us after every fall and cleanses us from every stain. Repentance is the divine wonder through which we are renewed after sin. It is the outpouring of divine inspiration upon the soul.

Through the power of repentance, we rise toward God our Father and learn to live eternally in the light of His love. Through repentance, our Theosis is accomplished. Such is its unimaginable greatness.

The grace of repentance is given to those who accept the word of Christ with complete faith and surrender themselves entirely to Him.

Sorrows and sufferings are the pruning by which God enables us to bear greater fruit. Through them, He makes us better and more spiritually mature. God has His own ways of educating those who trust Him, even when, in moments of suffering, we feel abandoned.

Through afflictions, the freedom of man and his trust in God are tested—often severely. The stronger a person's faith and trust in God become, the greater may be the measure of the trial entrusted to him, and the deeper the spiritual experience that follows.

Temptations are necessary for our growth. They are among the most powerful means through which we are trained and led toward Theosis. The greatest battle of all is the battle against pride and its many forms: vanity, resentment, envy, self-exaltation, and self-love.

Even suffering itself can become a servant of salvation. Man, captivated by the endless pursuit of unlawful pleasure, fills his life with needless pain. Having become unwilling to struggle against the passions inspired by evil, he often refuses the path of spiritual effort.

For this reason, God sometimes permits suffering and trials, so that through them man may awaken, repent, and return to Him. What appears to be a burden can become a blessing. What appears to be loss can become the beginning of eternal gain.

Through humility, repentance, faith, and perseverance in trials, the human soul is gradually purified, illumined, and united with God. This is the path of the Saints. This is the path of Theosis.

Only by following the example of Christ, by crucifying and renouncing our ego and our own will, by overcoming the temptations and trials of life, and by following the life of our Prototype, the God-Man Jesus Christ, do we arrive at the Resurrection.

The Christian lives the life of one who is both crucified and risen. He follows the path of his Leader, the Crucified and Risen God-Man Christ. His goal is Theosis. His mind is freed from slavery to the passions. He lives the life of Jesus Christ and continually holds Him as his model and example. When Christians become discouraged, it is often because they are not carrying their cross willingly, joyfully, and with thanksgiving.

The more wholeheartedly a person longs for God, the more sincerely he strives to deny himself, follow Christ, and carry his cross, the more he receives divine strength from the Lord Jesus Christ. The moment we choose to struggle against ourselves and embrace our cross, that very moment divine power is granted to us.

The humility of Christ is the power that conquers all things. God is humility. Humility is self-emptying love. The God who creates all existence through His Word willingly becomes incarnate and humbles Himself beyond anything we can comprehend. This divine humility is the distinguishing mark of divine love, a love that freely pours itself out for others. When the humility of Christ begins to act within the human spirit, it bears silent witness to the salvation of the soul without the need for words.

The Divine Liturgy is God's priceless gift to humanity. In its eternal spiritual reality, the Divine Liturgy is the sacrifice offered for the sins of the world. In the Divine Liturgy, we partake of the Body and Blood of the incarnate Christ, who sits at the right hand of the Father. Christ is both the One who offers and the One who is offered. He offers His risen and glorified humanity for the life of the world.

The grace and energy of God are communicated through the Holy Spirit, through the Saints, through the priesthood, and above all through the Divine Liturgy. There the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit bestow upon us the life-giving grace of the Holy Trinity.

In the Divine Liturgy, man transcends himself and exchanges his created and corruptible life for the incorruptible and uncreated life of the Risen Son of God. The purpose of the Divine Liturgy and of the Christian life itself is the visitation of the Holy Spirit, the "living water" of which Christ spoke, the water that forever quenches spiritual thirst.

The Divine Liturgy is the mystery of God's love for humanity. It is the hidden source of true life because Christ Himself is present within it. The Giver of Life offers Himself as food and drink for the faithful. In the Divine Liturgy, we partake of divine life itself.

Through this sacred mystery, we can no longer separate ourselves from the incomprehensibly great plan of our Creator and Father—a plan in which God loves us beyond measure and calls us to be with Him forever.

The immaculate Body and precious Blood of the Lord are an inexhaustible source of reconciliation between God and man. They are the means of purification, sanctification, renewal, and Theosis. By receiving His Body and Blood, we also receive His divinity as it was revealed in the Incarnation and as it eternally exists in heavenly glory.

Through Holy Communion, we receive the immortal life of God and become participants in immortality. We become partakers of divine life, and Christ Himself comes to dwell within us.

This is the way: through our loving union with the Divine Person of the Only-Begotten Son, we gradually become like Him. Then our Heavenly Father adopts us for all eternity and grants us the fullness of our calling as beings created in His image and likeness.

Holy Confession is one of God's greatest gifts to humanity. Through it, everything that has fallen is raised up again. No matter what a person has done, through sincere Confession he is liberated from evil and from the chains with which sin has bound him. Through Confession, the Holy Spirit continually grants illumination, peace, and renewal.

Through His incarnate life on earth, the God-Man established His God-human Body, the Church. The Church prepares the world for the coming, presence, and activity of the Holy Spirit, who is the soul of the Body of Christ.

By entering into the life of the Church, we enter into the path of salvation. Within her, we receive the life of the Holy Spirit. Within her, we are reborn. Within her, we are healed from the wounds of sin and restored to communion with God.

The Church is the place of our regeneration. It is the place of our salvation. It is the place where Heaven begins on earth.

There we receive the Holy Spirit, whom we lose through sin and disobedience to the will of God. There we are renewed, sanctified, and transformed. There we begin the journey that leads to Eternal Life.

The Church is the ark of salvation, the dwelling place of divine grace, and the sacred path through which man is led to Theosis and to everlasting communion with the Holy Trinity.

The Church is Paradise on earth because Christ Himself is present within her. We experience His presence through divine grace, which is given to us in the Divine Liturgy and through the Holy Mysteries. The mission of the Church is the continual sanctification of humanity through the Holy Spirit.

Through Holy Baptism and participation in the Divine Liturgy and the sacramental life of the Church, every Christian becomes a participant in the holiness of the God-Man Jesus Christ. The sacrifice offered upon the holy altar in every Divine Liturgy is the very same sacrifice of the God-Man upon Golgotha, eternally present and eternally sanctifying those who participate in it with faith.

The Judgment at the Second Coming is, in essence, the manifestation of Christ Himself. For some, His presence will be boundless joy; for others, it will be boundless sorrow. Everything depends upon our relationship with Christ and upon whether we have learned to love.

There is no true love without humility and self-emptying. If we have learned to love our fellow human beings, then we have also learned to love Christ.

Eternal Life is the knowledge of the one true God. It is the enjoyment of His infinite perfection through intimate communion and love. It is the knowledge, worship, and experience of Jesus Christ. Eternal Life is granted by the Father only through His Son and Word.

We attain Eternal Life by loving God and loving our neighbor. We love God by keeping His commandments and by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

The Saints of the Church teach us that even in the life to come, the journey toward perfection continues. God prepares dwelling places for all His children in the heavenly Kingdom. There are many mansions, differing in glory according to the spiritual measure of each person.

Each receives according to the purity of his heart and according to his works. Yet even those who dwell in the humblest heavenly mansions continue their eternal ascent toward the infinite perfection of God.

The mind is not the soul itself but a gift of God given for the salvation of the soul. It guides and counsels us to despise what is temporary, material, and corruptible and to love what is eternal, incorruptible, and spiritual. Though we live bodily upon the earth, the mind is called to contemplate heavenly realities and the things of God.

The Son has granted Eternal Life to all who believe in Him. This blessed and everlasting life exists in Him and is communicated through Him to those who place their faith in Him. Whoever possesses the Son in his heart and is united with Him through faith already possesses the witness of Eternal Life. But whoever does not possess the Son of God does not possess Eternal Life.

At the Second Coming, all shall receive incorruptible and spiritual bodies, like the glorified Body of the Risen Christ. The body that is now governed by earthly and biological limitations shall be raised as a spiritual body. What is now mortal shall become immortal. What is now corruptible shall become incorruptible.

The purpose of creation is that all things may be united and recapitulated in Christ and in His Church, which is His Body. Christ is the One who holds all things together in Himself. Our purpose is to enter into communion with Him, to follow Him, and to receive His grace, which He continually pours forth through His Body, the Church.

We were created to glorify God. We glorify Him by doing His works and by living as worthy children of our Heavenly Father. God is glorified when His children live according to His will and become reflections of His goodness and love.

The one who is of the earth is earthly and corruptible, and those who share only in earthly life remain subject to corruption. But the One who is heavenly, incorruptible, and beyond time and space is the God-Man Jesus Christ. Those who are baptized into Him, who receive the seed of immortality and partake of His Risen Body and Blood, become participants in His incorruptible and eternal life.

Spiritual negligence, or acedia, is one of the greatest afflictions of our age. The care of the soul is the most important task entrusted to us, for the soul is our true and eternal reality. Yet many spend their lives caring for everything except their soul.

This neglect of the soul is among the greatest victories of the enemy in our time.

Let us not be seduced by the voices of this passing world. Let us direct our attention instead toward the eternal world, toward life in communion with the God-Man Jesus Christ.

Acedia is a dangerous spiritual illness because it produces spiritual laziness. It attacks the mind, paralyzes it, and renders it incapable of contemplating spiritual realities. The person afflicted by acedia becomes unwilling to pray, unwilling to participate in the sacramental life of the Church, and gradually loses the desire for God.

For this reason, vigilance, prayer, repentance, and participation in the life of the Church are essential. They preserve the soul in grace and keep it moving toward its ultimate destiny: Eternal Life, communion with the Holy Trinity, and participation in the glory of God.

This is the purpose of our existence.

This is the calling of every human being.

This is the path of salvation.

This is the path of Theosis.

The fear of death, which troubles so many people and often lies behind countless sufferings in old age, gradually disappears when we draw near to Christ, who is the Source of Life. Death is, in a sense, the emptying of the ego. When the ego is emptied before physical death and that emptiness is filled with Jesus Christ, we begin to long for our departure from this world, so that we may behold forever our sweetest Lord Jesus, who in every Divine Liturgy offers His Body and Blood for our salvation.

The Triune God is nothing but love. He always loves us. We ourselves create our sufferings, temptations, and misfortunes whenever we separate ourselves from Him and allow ourselves to be led astray by the devil. The devil is real, even though he has convinced many people that he does not exist.

God has created nothing evil for us. He does not desire punishment. Hell is not something God imposes upon man. Rather, hell is the condition we create when we reject the love, mercy, and providence of our Creator.

Hell is separation from God.

Hell is the refusal of communion with our Creator.

Hell is the persistent rejection of Jesus Christ as the Son of God and Savior of the world.

When a person rejects Christ, the same divine Light that gives life and joy to the saints is experienced as a consuming fire. It is not because God changes, but because the human heart has closed itself to His love.

Paradise is the acceptance of Jesus Christ.

Paradise is to acknowledge Him as the Son of God, our Creator, and our Savior.

Paradise is to encounter His presence as life-giving Light. In His presence, every part of our being rejoices and is filled with peace, love, and fulfillment.

Even now, while still on earth, we can begin to experience Paradise by becoming living members of the Body of Christ, the Church. The Church is the heavenly reality made present upon the earth.

Within her, we enter the presence of Christ, His Most Holy Mother, the angelic hosts, and all the Saints. Through participation in the Divine Liturgy and the Holy Mysteries, every part of our being is sanctified. The immaculate Body and precious Blood of Christ become for us an inexhaustible source of reconciliation with God, purification, sanctification, renewal, and Theosis.

To receive these gifts fully, we must continually strive for repentance, forgiveness, and love—even toward our enemies.

I especially invite those who consider themselves atheists to read these words carefully.

Many reject God because they trust exclusively in the limitations of human reasoning or because the ego refuses to acknowledge anything greater than itself. Others dismiss Christ without ever seriously examining the lives of the Saints, the witness of the Church, or the countless miracles that have accompanied Christian history.

I invite every sincere seeker to investigate these things honestly. Study the lives of the Saints. Examine their witness. Experience prayer. Approach Holy Confession and Holy Communion with humility and sincerity. Then judge for yourself.

The ego delights in self-sufficiency and self-deification. Yet the ego, together with the reasoning that serves it, often leads humanity away from truth. Whenever the mind abandons the heart and becomes absorbed exclusively in created things, the ego takes control.

Let us remember who we are and from where we have come.

Let us remember that Jesus Christ is the Source of Life.

Apart from Christ there is darkness. This is not merely a theological statement for me—it is something I have witnessed personally.

For many years I have met thousands of people through seminars, conversations, and personal encounters. I have seen countless individuals searching for meaning in gurus, ideologies, and spiritual systems that promise fulfillment yet leave the soul empty. Again and again I have encountered people burdened by confusion, fear, loneliness, and despair.

I have also witnessed something else.

I have seen countless people return to Christ, return to the sacramental life of the Church, and rediscover peace, purpose, joy, and hope. Their lives were transformed not because of human wisdom but because they encountered the living Christ.

Our happiness depends upon the fulfillment of the soul.

And the soul finds fulfillment only when it journeys toward its true Creator.

Toward the One who sacrificed Himself for it.

Toward the One who continually nourishes it through His Body and Blood.

Toward the One who destroys death through His Resurrection.

Toward the One who ascended into Heaven and opens the way for humanity to enter the Kingdom of the Father.

Many people tell me that they stay away from the Church because of the weaknesses of some clergy.

Indeed, priests are human beings and share the same weaknesses as everyone else. Some may fail to live according to the dignity of their calling. Yet this should never prevent us from seeking Christ Himself.

Throughout my life I have also known many holy priests, men of deep faith, humility, and love, who honor the sacred ministry entrusted to them.

But regardless of the personal worthiness of the priest, the Holy Mysteries belong to Christ. It is Christ who acts through them.

Through the grace of the priesthood and the descent of the Holy Spirit, the Holy Gifts are sanctified and become the Body and Blood of the Lord.

For this reason, we honor the priesthood—not because of human perfection, but because God chooses to work through it for the salvation of His people.

The Holy Spirit descends.

The Gifts are sanctified.

Christ offers Himself.

And through this divine mystery, humanity is invited into communion with God, into Eternal Life, and into the eternal joy of His Kingdom.

This is the invitation set before every human being.

This is the purpose of life.

This is the path to salvation.

This is the path to Theosis.

It is worth studying this book carefully. It is worth studying the words of the Saints and realizing that if we are not close to Christ, we are far from His Kingdom and far from Eternal Life. Sadly, this describes the vast majority of people today.

Many of us consider ourselves "good Christians." Perhaps a better description would be "lukewarm Christians." We believe that because we do not steal, kill, or deliberately harm others, everything is well with our souls. We attend church occasionally, receive Holy Communion at Christmas and Easter, and assume that nothing more is required.

I once lived in the same way.

Now I see the difference.

Lukewarm Christianity deceives us. It lulls us into spiritual sleep. We convince ourselves that we are good people and therefore need no further transformation. Yet there is no more dangerous condition than believing that we are spiritually healthy when, in reality, we are neglecting our souls.

Awaken, my beloved friends.

Realize how brief this earthly life truly is. Everything in this world is passing away. Turn to the Lord. Become living and active members of His Church.

Do not identify the Church with the failures of individual people. The Church is the House of God. In every Divine Liturgy, Christ is present. The Most Holy Theotokos is present. The Saints are present. The Holy Spirit sanctifies all things and fills the Church with divine life.

We receive only a small benefit when we merely enter a church to light a candle. The greatest gift is participation in the Divine Liturgy, where heaven and earth are united.

Through His Incarnation, Crucifixion, Resurrection, and Ascension, Jesus Christ united human nature with divine life forever. He sanctified humanity and raised it into the very life of the Holy Trinity. Because of this, whenever we choose, we may return to His Body, the Church, and enter once again into the path of Eternal Life.

Love the Lord with your whole being.

Everything depends upon Him, both in this life and in the life to come.

We love the Lord by keeping His commandments, by refusing to become consumed by worldly distractions, and by surrendering our entire being to Him.

To love Christ is to remember Him continually.

Never forget that there is also a spiritual battle taking place within us. There exists a dark force that seeks to separate us from God and draw us away from life.

When greed, vanity, ambition, pride, resentment, or hatred take hold of us, these things do not come from the deepest reality of the soul created by God. They belong to the fallen condition and must be healed through Christ.

Without Jesus Christ, we are powerless.

With Jesus Christ, we are invited into the very life of the Holy Trinity.

Do not allow yourselves to be deceived by the tyranny of the ego or by the limitations of human reasoning. Learn to recognize that when anger, pride, and hatred dominate the heart, you are not experiencing true freedom.

True freedom is found when Christ reigns within us.

When peace fills the heart, when humility grows, when forgiveness becomes natural, when prayer becomes life, then Christ is acting within us.

Only when the ego decreases and Christ increases do we begin to become truly ourselves.

Only then do we become like our Prototype, Jesus Christ.

Only then do we walk the path of Theosis.

When we empty ourselves before death empties us, Christ fills that space with His presence. We become filled with the Holy Spirit. We begin to participate in holiness. We begin even now to taste immortality.

The Saints are those who never truly die because they live eternally in Christ.

My beloved friends, everything written in this book points toward a single truth: the purpose of human life is union with God.

Keep this book close to you.

Return to it often.

Open it at random when you are troubled, discouraged, confused, or tempted.

Read a page.

Read a paragraph.

Allow the words of the Saints to remind you of the path.

Allow them to guide you back to Christ.

Allow them to lead you once again toward Theosis.

My prayer is that all of us may attain Theosis, inherit Eternal Life, and enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

For this is the eternal plan of the Triune God for every human being.

This is why we were created.

This is why Christ came into the world.

This is why the Church exists.

And this is the destiny prepared for all who freely choose to walk with Him.

Το σημαντικό είναι να μη χαθεί η ουσία.

Και η ουσία, όπως την έχω καταλάβει από σένα, είναι:

«Δεν θέλω απλώς να βοηθήσω τους ανθρώπους να θεραπευτούν.

Θέλω να τους βοηθήσω να ανακαλύψουν ποιοι πραγματικά είναι, να βρουν τον Δημιουργό τους και να βαδίσουν προς τη Θέωση.»

Αυτό είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερο μήνυμα.

Και ξέρεις κάτι;

Αυτό που με κάνει αισιόδοξο για το εγχείρημα δεν είναι τα social ή το Amazon.

Είναι ότι πίσω από τα βιβλία υπάρχει μια ζωή.

We are not created merely to survive.

Man is not merely a physical being. He is an eternal soul temporarily living in a physical body.

The world of space and time is temporary. Eternal life is the true reality.

Our life on earth is a preparation for eternity.

Every choice, every thought, every action either brings us closer to God or farther away from Him.

The purpose of our earthly life is not simply to achieve success, wealth, health, or pleasure, but to prepare our soul for union with God.

And this union is impossible without humility.

Humility is the doorway to divine grace.

Without humility there is no repentance. Without repentance there is no purification. Without purification there is no illumination. Without illumination there is no Theosis.

The path to eternal life is the path of humility, love, repentance, and union with Christ.
